Sonora Carjacking Reported

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The Sonora Police Department says a man pulled out a knife and stole a woman’s car in the Big Lots parking lot.

The carjacking was reported at 7:20pm on Monday. The victim told officers she was sitting in her car and a man came up and asked for a cigarette. She gave him a cigarette, and then said he wanted her car too. She thought it was a joke at first, but then he reportedly pulled out a knife.

The man then demanded she give up her cell phone and purse. The woman got out of the car and told him to “take everything.” He then took off driving the car.

The Police Department was able to figure out the approximate location of the cell phone thanks to an implanted tracking device. Officers responded to the area and found the victim’s vehicle parked at Soulsbyville Elementary School. The vehicle was not damaged or vandalized.

The suspect remains at-large. He is described as being a white male, approximately 6’0″ and around 25-years-old. He was wearing a black beanie and a black and white plaid jacket. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact the Sonora Police Department at 532-8141.
