Spectacular Night For Meals On Wheels
Jamestown, CA– This past weekend nearly 400 people attended the 5th annual Meals on Wheels fundraiser in Jamestown.
Sierra Senior Providers in Sonora is responsible for the local food service program that provides 440 seniors with meals each year.
“It was spectacular,” said Sierra Senior Providers CEO Mike Ruggles. “This was without question, the best fundraiser we’ve had yet. We had a lot of enthusiastic people and a lot of people dressed in costume. We couldn’t have asked for more. It looks like we raised in excess of $83,000, so that’s just marvelous.”
Ruggles says about $8,000 more was raised this year for Tuolumne County’s Meals on Wheels program and that about 100 more people attended the fundraising event. He believes the Roaring 20’s theme was a big draw along with the catered food, entertainment and raffle prizes.
“I think this community is just so doggone giving,” said Ruggles. “If you have a good cause like we do with Meals on Wheels, people are really there to support us.”
Ruggles says it costs about $52,000 a month to run the Meals on Wheels program. An additional $200,000 also needs to be raised yearly in addition to what is received in grants and other contributions.
