Fire Weather Watch Issued For Motherlode
The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for the Motherlode and the Stanislaus National Forest from Friday morning through Saturday evening.
The Fire Weather Watch is in effect from elevations above 1000 feet and below 5000 feet.
Thunderstorms may move into the foothills from the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevada by Friday afternoon. Storms may initially be dry. They would probably moisten up by Saturday, however lightning strikes away from rain cores and locally gusty winds may cause a hazardous fire environment during the Watch period.
Gusty winds up to thirty mph are possibe near any thunderstorms.
Storms near the Sierra Crest are likely to be wet.
The possibility of lightning, gusty outflow winds and dry fuels warrant the issuance of a Fire Weather Watch.
