County May Offer Early Retirement
Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Supervisors will vote whether to offer an early retirement package to 45 county employees.
The goal would be to reduce the workforce and cut expenses. Many of the positions would be left open, while others would be filled by hiring a new employee at a much lower pay range.
As part of the proposal by CAO Craig Pedro, the workers who accept early retirement would receive $1,000 for each year of service they have with the county.
If all 45 employees accept early retirement, it would cost the county $788,000 to fund the buyout package. The County estimates that the move could save approximately $6.3 million over a five year period. Tuesday’s Supervisors meeting begins at 9am at the County Administration Center.
