Moratorium Placed On Library Displays
Sonora, CA — Members of the Tuolumne County Republican Central Committee have been raising concerns about a display at the Main Library, and CAO Craig Pedro has decided that the display must be removed.
The display is entitled “California’s Democratic Warriors” and features prominent females in the party like Barbara Boxer, Diane Feinstein and Nancy Pelosi. Community groups can reserve space in the display area, and the particular one in question was put up by the Tuolumne County Democratic Club. The application called for a display entitled “History of the Democratic Party, 1932-2010.” After reviewing the display, Pedro states, “It has been found that the actual display is not consistent with the description provided in the application requesting space.”
Pedro has asked the applicant to take it down immediately, and he has also called for a moratorium on future displays until the county’s policy can be reviewed next month. A review is tentatively scheduled for November 9th. The Republican Central Committee’s concerns about the display were related to the election coming up on November 2nd. Since the display space is reserved months ahead of time, it wouldn’t be possible for the Republican Party to place a competing display.
