Supervisor Wilensky Looks Back On 2008
San Andreas, CA — When taking time to reflect on the accomplishments of Calaveras County government over the past year, Supervisorial Chair Steve Wilensky says work on a General Plan update ranks near the top of the list.
Once completed, it will serve as a road map for development and infrastructure in the County.
“We had at least eight communities that had high levels of participation in developing community plans, six of them for the first time,” adds Wilensky. “It shows the worth and value of citizen participation in the planning process. A good product is on its way and we expect 2009 to be a time when we finalize much of this work.”
Other highlights of 2008 include moving forward with plans to construct a law and justice center, expanding Calworks services, creation of a Parks and Recreation Commission and starting to put together a plan to spur economic development.
Looking ahead to 2009, he hopes the Supervisors can refrain from “needless abstract arguments” and get to work on issues rather than “conflict resolution.”
When the Board meets next Tuesday, current Vice Chair Russ Thomas is expected to be elected the 2009 Chair of the Board.
