Parking Tickets May Become More Expensive In Sonora
Sonora, CA — The Sonora City Council will decide Monday whether to increase penalties for parking tickets by $3.
California is mandating that local law enforcement agencies pay an additional $3 from parking fees towards a courthouse construction fund. Police Chief Mark Stinson is asking that the Council increase fines by that amount in order to offset the loss of funding to the Police Department.
“Some other cities are actually using this opportunity to increase parking fines by more than the $3,” says Stinson. “We’re just asking for the minimal amount.”
Stinson confirms that the penalty for being caught in a "no parking" zone would go from $35 to $38 and overtime parking violations would go from $20 to $23.
