Community Day Of Caring Rally
Sonora, CA — During tough economic times more residents tend to rely on non-profit agencies for basic services. Courthouse Park in Sonora hosted a Saturday morning Community Day of Caring Rally to showcase the different volunteer opportunities that exist.
“A lot of groups have lost staff members and are now relying on volunteers for what used to be paid staff members,” says Paula Burklin, one of the organizers. “There’s opportunities for internships, opportunities for retired folks, and opportunities for those who want to help out with the library, Sheriff’s Office, Fire and Rescue and other types of things.”
Over thirty agencies had booths set up in the park. There was also information on how residents can assist others with home improvement projects, cook and serve food for the homeless, mentor a child or assist the elderly and disabled.
The event was put on by the Tuolumne County Safety Net Planning Committee.
