Group Plans To Educate About Diabetes
Sonora, CA — November is Diabetes Awareness Month, and a new non-profit organization has been formed in Tuolumne County to educate teachers and the community about this growing health problem.
“Of the children born in the year 2000, one in three will become diabetic in their lifetime, if things don’t change,” says John Clements, Executive Director of the Diabetic Encounter Awareness Program. “We’re trying to bring this awareness to the forefront.”
The statistics cited were provided by the C.D.C.
Clements says the newly formed organization plans to make presentations at area schools in the near future that will provide the basic tools needed for teachers to meet the unique challenges of a diabetic student.
