Population Decreases Across Mother Lode
Sacramento, CA — A new state report shows that both Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties lost residents in 2009.
On July 1st of 2009, Tuolumne County had a population of 55,753, down 775 residents from the same time one year ago. Calaveras County’s population was 45,959, down 127 residents from 2008.
Tuolumne County saw a 1.4 percent overall reduction and Calaveras County a .28 percent decrease.
Between July of 2008 to July of 2009, Tuolumne County had a net migration of 632 residents, while 17 residents moved into the county. Additionally, there were 614 deaths and 471 births reported.
During the same period, Calaveras County had a net migration of 73 residents, while 23 people moved into the county. There were also 424 deaths and 370 births.
Meanwhile, the state of California increased population by one percent in 2009, to 38.5 million. The only years of lower growth rates since 1900 were in the years 1994 through 1996.
