Columbia, CA — Columbia College celebrated the official groundbreaking ceremony for the campus´ Public Safety Center Building expansion project this morning at ten o´clock.

When the project is completed the facility will measure approximately 6,000 square feet doubling the size of the original structure. It will house Tuolumne County Fire Department personnel and equipment including a breathing support unit, campus security and emergency dispatch services.

The purpose of the expansion is to consolidate all three of the campus´ emergency services. The project is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2009.

Featured speakers included College President Dr. Joan Smith and the chancellor of the Yosemite Community College District Dr. Roe Darnell. Both commented that without the passage of Bond Measure E several years ago such a project would not be possible. Also speaking were two members of the Board of Regents Pat Dean and Abe Rojas.
