Drivers Screened At Late Night DUI Checkpoint
Sonora, Ca — 500 drivers were screened during a DUI and Drivers License Checkpoint operation set up Friday evening on Hwy 49 North of Washington St.
Lt. Mark Stinson with the Sonora PD says that five field sobriety tests were given, with no one being arrested for drunk driving. ?Three people were cited for not having a valid driver´s license, and two vehicles were towed,? adds Stinson. One of the vehicles towed will be impounded for 30 days, as the driver has a suspended license because of a recent drunk driving conviction.
Friday´s checkpoint was a joint effort between the Sonora PD and the Jamestown CHP office. The next sobriety and driver´s license checkpoint will be set up in Sonora on Friday, August 29, at the start of the Labor Day weekend. Funding is provided through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
