Malerbi Welcomes Friends Of The Fair
Angels Camp, CA — Given its financially strapped financial status, the Calaveras County Fair is welcoming the Friends of the Fair group with open arms.
General Manager Ray Malerbi says the group´s proposed fundraising efforts are especially appreciated given the Fair´s financial ills and the dramatic economic turndown.
In a recent meeting Malerbi presented the group with a “wish list” of needs for the Fair totaling $312,050.
The top priority would be increasing the scholarships for Miss Calaveras and Saddle Queen winners. Those scholarships are currently $1,000. Malerbi would like to see them increased to a level of between $3-5,000. Overall he hopes Friends of the Fair would increase the number of scholarships on an annual basis from nine to 15. He is also hopeful of the Friends of the Fair eventually taking over management of the scholarship program.
Other items on the “wish list” include air conditioning for the Mark Twain Building along with serious upgrades for the Frogtown RV Park. Malerbi´s bottom line; the more attendees, the more revenues for the Fair.
Meanwhile the Friends of the Fair group is attempting to gain non-profit status through the state for its fundraising efforts.
