Angels Bypass Hits Speed Bump
Angels Camp, CA — Planning for the Angels Camp Bypass has hit yet another speed bump.
The bypass route would start at the Highway 4/49 intersection and connect with Highway 4 near the Rolleri Bypass. But, in December Caltrans told planners the project would cost another $13 million, bringing the total cost to $60 million.
Just where that money will come from is causing planners some concern.
Calaveras County suggested paying for a portion of the increase from a tri-county agreement with Alpine and Amador counties but the two neighboring jurisdictions disagreed.
Planners went back to the drawing board and have requested Proposition 1B funding, which the California Transportation Commission will vote on later this month.
In the meantime, the project, which was set to go out to bid this month, is being held up. If this new proposal is approved, the project could go out to bid in April.
