Modesto, CA — A Stockton man charged with killing a California Highway Patrol officer has a new attorney.
30-year-old Columbus Allen Junior II has repeatedly questioned the public defenders assigned to his case.
A Stanislaus County Superior Court appointed him a new lawyer Monday from a private firm that contracts with the county.
Allen is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of CHP officer Earl Scott in February. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
