Cynthia L. Dakin June 26, 1959 – July 24, 1926
Cynthia Dakin or “Cece” or “Cindy” as close friends and family called her, was born in San Fernando Valley Los Angeles to Carroll & Patricia Potter on June 26, 1959. The Family moved to Pleasanton, CA. when Cindy was 8. She enjoyed a wonderful childhood with her two Brothers–one of which whom shared the same birthday as her, only 2 years apart. The Family loved to go Boating and Camping together, and Cindy thoroughly enjoyed making Art, singing, reading, writing, playing the Piano & Guitar, Gardening, and later in life Collecting &Â restoring Antiques. She was very creative and musically inclined.
Cynthia was married in 1980 and moved from Pleasanton to Livermore. In 1981 she had her first Child who was quickly followed by another. Cindy and her new family decided to build a beautiful home in Manteca, CA. and shortly after moving there, she gave birth to her last and final child in 1984. Cindy enjoyed being a Stay-At-Home Mom. She would always make nutritious meals and was very much involved in the kids education, schooling, social lives…
Around 1993, she unexpectedly became a single Parent. Cindy moved her and her Children to Modesto, CA. Where she went back to School (MJC) full time to become a Registered Nurse. She graduated at the top of her class. With her A-type personality and nurturing ways, she quickly rose in rank and became a Charge Nurse who worked on the Oncology and Pediatric Units at Memorial Hospital in Modesto. She was a very hard worker often pulling 12 hour shifts.
Cynthia unfortunately fell ill to a rare lung disease (Idiopathic Bronchiolitis Obliterans) and was forced to retire early. She donated her flawed lungs to Science and received the very pristine gift of new lungs by undergoing a very extensive Bilateral Lung Transplant surgery at UCSF in 2009. Because of her donor (whom she was ever grateful for), Cindy was therefore granted an extended life that she cherished dearly. She achieved an impressive (via medical standards) extra 17 years by taking impeccable care of her gifted lungs. Because of her Transplant, she was able to see her Grandson grow up, and go on many exciting adventures such as skip across the Golden Gate Bridge as she had promised herself she would do in honor of her donor, and she even went Skydiving.
Cynthia ultimately moved to beautiful Sonora CA. from the Valley for better Air quality (as recommended to do by her Doctor(s)). She absolutely loved this area. Her eldest daughter followed her here and became her care giver as Cindy (as expected with Transplant patients) gradually declined in health.
Cindy passed peacefully at the Adventist Health Hospital in Sonora, CA. on July 24, 1926 due to Respiratory Failure / Lung Rejection and Atrial Flutter.
She was a bright, creative light full of love & life and is deeply missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her Mother, Patricia Potter, two brothers Ronald & Kenneth Potter, her 3 Children Darri, Douglas, and Devene Dakin, her Grandson Malachi West, Nephews Austen & Jake Potter, and Niece Sarah Potter.
