Aronos Hosts Bunco Night Fund Raiser To Benefit School Teachers
Aronos Research Club will host a Bunco Night fund raiser in honor of the late Dianne Aventi.
The event will be held on Friday, November 14 starting at 6 p.m. in the Aronos Clubhouse located 37 Elkin Street in downtown Sonora. Tickets are $30 and will include a light dinner and dance performance.
Reservations for the Bunco Night can be made on the club’s website – aronosresearchclub.com.
“Dianne Aventi was a dear friend, a long-time Tuolumne County resident, an active member of the Aronos Research Club and an avid Bunco player,” Elena Linehan, event coordinator, said.
At the end of her life, Aventi was a special education teacher’s aide working with students that were visually impaired.
“She created the braille Valentine’s Day cards that we included in the holiday remembrances given by the club to homebound residents in the county,” Linehan said.
Appropriately, the funds raised at the Bunco Night will fund the club’s Aronos Club Teacher Support program which provides grants to elementary school teachers for vital school supplies.
“This year we will expand ACTS funds to make them available to all of the schools in the county,” Linehan said. “Dianne would be so proud. She was active with youth in all aspects of our community. Through employment with the Yes Partnership, AmeriCorps Academic Mentors, and County Superintendent of School Office as well as a volunteer with youth programs like Girl Scouts and Girls Circle.”
Everyone will be encouraged to wear red, which Linehan says was Aventi’s favorite color.
“She was an enthusiastic dancer and she would be delighted that this celebration of her life includes a performance by ‘Just Tappin’ with Bonnett’ led by Bonnett Saussol. This dance troupe is a popular mainstay of all of the events at the Aronos Research Club,” Linehan said.
Conifer Communications serves as corporate sponsor for this event. Additional business sponsors for refreshments and donations from retailers for “Buy A Box” raffle prizes have been received by Aronos Research Club.
“It is truly wonderful how the community steps up to support our club and our programs,” Linehan said.
The Aronos Research Club is a service organization established in 1915. Originally a women’s club, the club now welcomes men in the membership. Their goal is to promote an interest in arts, civics, history, literature, and music.
Each year the club picks a topic to research and hosts a speakers series that is open to the public.
This year’s topic is Vietnam.
The club provide scholarships to college students studying fire science, nursing and completing a teaching credential. An annual Coffee With A Cop is held for neighbors to meet with law enforcement officers to answer questions and increase understanding.
“We’re proud of our 110-year-old heritage and hope to continue serving our community for another 110 years,” Linehan said.
