42nd Annual Las Posadas Nativity Procession
Sunday, December 14 · Begins at 5:30 p.m.
Columbia State Historic Park

Experience a beloved Columbia tradition as the community presents the 42nd annual Las Posadas Nativity Procession. While inspired by the Mexican tradition of Las Posadas, Columbia’s version carries a unique 1850s Gold Rush flavor and reenacts Mary and Joseph’s search for shelter on the original Christmas Eve.

Main Street will glow with luminaries, and the park will be dressed in seasonal boughs and wreaths, creating the perfect backdrop for this candlelit, family-friendly event. The cast includes Mary riding on a donkey led by Joseph, angels, shepherds, the innkeeper, Wise Men, a tax collector, and townspeople in 1850s costume—culminating, of course, with the baby Jesus.

Local musicians will lead the crowd in singing familiar Christmas carols throughout the procession, adding to the warmth and spirit of the evening. Once the procession concludes, it’s time to head inside and warm up. All are invited to gather in Angelo’s Hall on State Street for hot chocolate and more carol singing.

This free community event is organized by the townspeople of Columbia. For more information, call 209-559-7723.
