Update: Walker Fire Near New Hogan Lake In Calaveras County

Update at 8:50 p.m.: CAL Fire spokesperson Emily Kilgore details that the Walker Fire remains 1,000 acres with zero containment. She adds, “Additional resources continue to come into the area to support the fire attack and will do so throughout the night.”

The fire broke out after 5 p.m. in the12000 block of Walker Trail near New Hogan Dam Road and south of New Hogan Lake in the Salt Springs area of Calaveras County. Three DC-10s were working the blaze this evening putting retardant around the blaze, as can be seen in a longer version of the video up in the image box by clicking here.

Update at 7:50 p.m.: Currently, there are three DC-10’s helping to lay retardant on the flames of the Walker Fire burning in the 12000 block of Walker Trail near New Hogan Dam Road and south of New Hogan Lake in the Salt Springs area of Calaveras County. There is video footage of one of them making a run at the fire up in the image box. The fire continues to be 1,000 acres in size and moving at a critical rate of spread, according to CAL Fire spokesperson Emily Kilgore. Luckily, there remain no structures threatened. Further details on the blaze are below.

Update at 7:15 p.m.: The Walker Fire has jumped to 1,000 acres. It is burning in the 12000 block of Walker Trail near New Hogan Dam Road and south of New Hogan Lake in the Salt Springs area of Calaveras County. CAL Fire spokesperson Emily Kilgore details, “It’s at a critical rate of spread, moving to the south. There are approximately 300 firefighters fighting the fire with additional crews still responding. We’re asking the public to stay out of the area.”

No structures are threatened at this time. Additional details on the aircraft battling the blaze are below.

Update at 6:40 p.m.: The Walker Fire burning in the 12000 block of Walker Trail near New Hogan Dam Road and south of New Hogan Lake in the Salt Springs area of Calaveras County has grown a hundred acres and is now 300 acres. The flames continue to move at a moderate rate of spread and no structures are threatened. Additional resources are being called to the scene. There is no containment at this time.

Update at 6:10 p.m.: Columbia aircraft and ground crews continue to battle the dubbed Walker Fire in the Salt Springs area of Calaveras County. CAL Fire spokesperson Emily Kilgore relays that the fire has grown from ten to 200 acres in size and is moving at a moderate rate of spread. The flames broke out in the 12000 block of Walker Trail Road near Hogan Dam Road south of New Hogan Lake and west of Pool Station Road. Firefighters are actively putting down retardant. No structures are threatened at this time. Several additional resources have been ordered to support the fire fight, according to Kilgore.

Update 5:36 p.m.: The fire, dubbed the “Walker Fire” is 10 acres with a moderate rate of spread. CAL Fire spokesperson Emily Kilgore says firefighters are actively putting down retardant. She adds the area is remote, and there have not been any evacuations ordered, as no homes are currently being threatened.

Original Post at 5:21 p.m.: Calaveras, CA — Columbia aircraft and ground crews are heading to a vegetation fire in the Salt Springs area of Calaveras County.

The photo in the image box shows a  plume in the skies. CAL Fire reports that the blaze is burning in the 12000 block of Walker Trail Road near Hogan Dam Road south of New Hogan Lake and west of Pool Station Road. No further details have been relayed at this time.  An update will be provided as soon as more details come into the newsroom.
