Tuolumne County Volunteer Fair, set to take place on Thursday, March 30th 2023, from 3:30-6:30pm at the Motherlode Fairgrounds. The Volunteer Fair is a free, impactful event to connect local community organizations, agencies and social service groups with residents who want to contribute volunteer hours in Tuolumne County.
As in years past, the event is being generously sponsored by Sonora Area Foundation and hosted by the Tuolumne County Chamber of Commerce. New to joining the effort as host this year is Blue Zones Project – Tuolumne County, a community-led health and well-being initiative that launched in Tuolumne County in April 2022.
According to research, volunteering can add years to your life through creating meaningful connection in community, utilizing one’s skills, and creating positive feelings about where you live and work. Volunteer fairs link community needs with volunteer interests, helping provide people with opportunities to live their purpose.
“Tuolumne County is a beautiful community where small-town America still resonates brightly. Let’s focus on healthy community connections as we recover from the pandemic by donating our time and energy to this worthwhile cause,” said Tyler Summersett, Blue Zones Project Tuolumne County Executive Director.
Communities across the US experienced a drop in volunteerism during the pandemic. The Volunteer Fair planning committee is excited to help re-introduce productive and helpful ways residents can invest in the community, meet neighbors, make new friends, and keep the fabric of our area strong.
The Volunteer Fair was first organized by the Leadership Tuolumne County Class of 2017-2018. Gary Johnson, long time Director of the Volunteer Fair commented, “After seeing the positive value the
Volunteer Fair’s had in our community, I am excited to keep it going once again. We hope to have different age groups to volunteer, including grade school students who are accompanied by a parent, high school, and college students, who are looking to add volunteerism to their resume, all the way through our wonderful senior citizens. Bringing our nonprofit organizations and willing volunteers together, in the same place at the same time, makes for an amazing event”.
The Volunteer Fair event will showcase community agencies, organizations and service clubs who are looking for volunteers and members. All are invited to participate for free and encouraged to sign up!
