First Weekend Of May Events
The weather promises to change this weekend so keep an eye on the forecast and enjoy some events this weekend.
Watch volunteer fire crews from around the western United States will take part in the 58th Annual Firemen’s Muster, presented by Columbia Volunteer Fire Department Engine Co. No. 1. The muster parade begins at 10 am, events include hose cart races, bucket brigade, skills competition, hand pumper contests. Admission is free, for details view the event listing.
The Sierra Waldorf School will host a May Day celebration at the school on Saturday from 10am – 3pm. There will be children’s crafts, artisan vendors, food, live music, dances around the May pole and two puppet shows. More details are in the event listing here.
The 3rd Annual Foothill Leadership Academy Art Showcase and Gala is this Saturday. The theme is Art Gala in Blue. Enjoy food, drinks, art, silent and live auction and live music. More about tickets for the event is here.
The 17th Annual Hot Copper Car Show is this Saturday at the Copper Town Square on Highway 4 in Copperopolis. Sponsored by Lake Tulloch Lions Club, all proceeds benefit the community through scholarships, support for local services and local nonprofit organizations. There will be vendors, food, raffles, and face painting for the kids. Details are here.
The 12th Gold Rush Writers’ Conference’s featured guest speaker, poet James Ragan, can be heard by the public at the Hotel Leger Ballroom in Mokelumne Hill on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 7:30 PM. This weekend through next the 60th anniversary of the Mother Lode Round-Up continues. Saturday is the free Queen Horsemanship at 10:00 AM at the Posse Grounds on Rawhide Road. Sunday is the Queen Pageant at the Fairgrounds at 5:00 PM which costs $10.00 at the door. Wednesday, May 10, is the Band Review at 6:00 PM at the Sonora High School football field. Thursday, May 11, is the Calcutta at 6:00 PM at the Sheriff’s Posse Grounds. Next weekend is the Parade and Rodeo.
