Richard McKinstry, the bonsai club’s president, will be the instructor of “Bonsai 101” and he will be assisted by other club mentors, who will available to help participants on transplanting trees and providing some styling ideas.
Class fee is $35. per person, which includes a bonsai plant, pot, soil, screen, wire and an instructional sheet on future care. Advance registration is advised by calling McKinstry at (209) 288-2330 and leaving a message if there is no answer. Registration can also be made on the day of the class but seating is limited to 12 participants.
“If you ever were intrigued by these miniature trees after seeing them on display or possibly owned one yourself in the past, this is the perfect way to learn more about their origin, structural growth, maintenance and basic requirements,” said McKinstry.
All are also invited to club meetings, which are held monthly on the first Saturdays at 9:00 a.m. in the San Andreas Central Library, 1299 Gold Hunter Road in San Andreas. Mother Lode Bonsai Club members come from Amador, Calaveras and Tuolumne counties, as well as the central valley. Go to the club website at www.motherlodebonsai.org for more information.
