Wes is the elected City Attorney in Sparks, Nevada, and an Air Force Reserve Colonel at Creech Air Force Base.
Please share the pathway you took that led you to where you are now:
After high school, I attended Columbia College, receiving an A.A., then transferred to U.C. Berkeley and graduated with a degree in political science. I next attended law school at the Ohio State University, graduating in 2006. After law school, I was commissioned as an activeduty Air Force officer, completed officer training and JAGschool, and was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base from which I deployed to Iraq 20 months later. After 4.5 years of active duty, I transitioned into the Air Force reserves and began private practice in Nevada. In 2012, I was elected to the Nevada Legislature and since then have held a variety of legal positions including First Assistant Attorney General, Deputy District Attorney, partner at a private firm and now City Attorney.
What are some memories you have of your time at Sonora High School?
I have many great memories of playing varsity sports and attending high school-sponsored events such as rallies, dances, and assemblies. I also fondly remember many of the teachers and coaches who encouraged me along my way.
What future goals do you have?
Currently, I am running to become the District Attorney of Washoe County, and I hope to continue serving in the Air Force reserves and make rank.
What advice would you give to current and future Sonora High students?
I would recommend students stay curious, read as many books as possible, limit the amount of time they are on their smart phones, and find a good mentor who can encourage them to pursue their dreams while also giving them candid feedback. Additionally, I believe it is essential to get good exercise and get plugged into a faith community that will encourage and challenge you.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I love to spend time with my four children, exercise, read, and get outdoors.
