The community is invited to celebrate the 161 anniversary of Cinco de Mayo in historic Columbia State Park May 5 and May 6..
Did you know that in May of 1862 the first recorded celebration in California of Mexico’s defeat of the French soldiers at the Battle of Puebla happened in Columbia California? What was it about this battle that created an American Tradition?
We invite you to experience the spirit and story of Cinco de Mayo in Columbia State Historic Park.
On Friday May 5, the public is invited to a street dance, from 5 to 10pm in Columbia State Historic Park, with live music by local favorite, the Mario Flores Latin Jazz Band and Rod Harris on saxophone. Local restaurants will be offering Cinco de Mayo specials.
On Saturday, May 6, the celebration begins at 11am to 5pm. Come stroll the town with the Mariachi Los Jilgueros, watch the local folklorico dancing on stage and visit the shops and popup Mercado featuring handmade crafts by artisans. There will be an indoor exhibit of the history and story of Cinco de Mayo in the Miner’s Hall in front of the chicken coop.
Admission and parking are free at Columbia State Historic Park located in Tuolumne County. For more info visit:
