Dia de los Muertos Community Altar
On Saturday November 13th Tuolumne County Arts in collaboration with the Sonora MakersLab will be creating an Dia de los Muertos Altar in Courthouse Park beginning in the afternoon and continuing during 2nd Saturday Art Night from 5:00-8:00 pm.
What is an Ofrenda? Ofrenda means “offering” in Spanish. An altar is built for the ofrenda’s to remember and honor people who have died. This is a way to keep the memory of that person alive through the annual tradition of remembering what they loved to do, eat and drink and what they look like.
After this difficult year in our community the public is invited to participate in the remembrance of loved ones by contributing ofrenda’s to an altar in Courthouse Park. Things traditionally placed on an alter include: flowers, paper flags, sugar skulls, photos, the deceased favorite food or objects.
There will be pre-event workshops to make sugar skulls, that may be placed in the ofrenda, at Tuolumne County Arts, 21 N. Washington St on November 6,9,10,11,12,13. Just drop in between 11:00 & 4:00 pm. or you can email us at info@tuolumnecountyarts.org if an organization you know would like to participate. Free workshops and free materials.
