For the first time ever, Make Music Day, the worldwide festival of making music held annually on the summer solstice, adds the Northern California town of Murphys, in Calaveras County, to its annual international celebration and vast program of over 4,000 live, free music-making events being staged in 120 cities across 30 American states and 1,000+ international cities.
Make Music Day will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, 3 pm to 8 pm at the Murphys Irish Pub and will continue at the Music Barn at Val du Vino Winery and Vineyards from 7 pm until the wee hours.
Launched in France in 1982 as the Fête de la Musique, Make Music Day has become a global phenomenon, now celebrated by hundreds of millions of global citizens since debuting in New York in 2007. Held on the longest day of the year, the world’s largest annual music event celebrates and promotes the natural music maker in everyone, regardless of age or skill level. Activities are free in streets, parks, plazas, porches, rooftops, gardens, and other public spaces to celebrate, create and share their music with friends, neighbors, and strangers.
