In emergency situations, one of the first things to break down is communications, whether it be telephone or internet service. We experienced this just this month; power and communication lines were brought down by heavy snowfall, and it has taken crews days or weeks of working round the clock to make repairs. If we had been a part of an Emergency Communications Net, we would have been able to communicate with others about our situations and known how we could help others who were in need of assistance. By being trained in Emergency Communications, we can be less of a burden to first responders, which allows them to focus on the emergency.
