Kudos to Congressman Tom McClintock for at least trying to reclaim some control on spending by Congress. He recently tried to repeal a recent Republican Party rule allowing earmarks; in other words: “Pork Barrel” spending which accounts in total for some budget busting legislation. Unfortunately, his caucus voted it down 158-52 giving his peers the ability to brag to their constituents that they “brought home the bacon” to their district. Important projects, like Alaska’s “Bridge to Nowhere” or the “development of equitable growth of shellfish aquaculture in Rhode Island.” But maybe we just weren’t aware of the problem of gender bias and racism in shellfish…
