John Steinbeck wrote: “A man, after he has brushed off the dust and chips of his life, will have only the hard, clean question: Was it good or was it evil? Have I done well or ill?”

The corruption at the United Nations has finally gone beyond the pale. For years, known bad actors have chaired the Human Rights Commission, including the current chair the Iranian Ambassador. But now we discover that hidden below the headquarters of the United Nations’ aid agency for Palestinians in Gaza City is a Hamas complex with rows of computer servers that Israel says served as an important communications center and intelligence hub for the Islamist militant group and appears to have run on electricity drawn from the U.N.’s power supply. Perhaps it’s finally time for the U.S. to leave the U.N. a failed organization and require them to move their headquarters to some other nation willing to put up with their duplicity.

Entertainer Marie Osmond says that “If you’re going to look back on something and laugh about it, you might as well laugh about it now.”

Congratulations to Sheriff Bill Pooley on his retirement this week after a 34-year career in law enforcement, the last eleven of which he served as Tuolumne County Sheriff. During his tenure, Sheriff Pooley worked tirelessly with his force of dedicated officers to protect and serve the people of the county; to improve coverage of the more rural parts of the county through better staffing of the department; and by bringing salaries up to a competitive level with surrounding counties. Sheriff Pooley joins a long list of notable peace officers in the Mother Lode, past and present, and we wish him the best in a well- deserved retirement.

Margaret Thatcher once noted that “Standing in the middle of the road is very dangerous; you get knocked down by the traffic from both sides.”

Only NOW, after apprehensions at the border have increased on his watch from less than 500,000 per year to nearly 2.5 million in fiscal year 2023 alone, President Biden admits that “the border isn’t secure” and has the audacity to claim that he’s been saying that for ten years. It’s absurd considering that his administration, including his so-called “Border Czar” Kamala Harris has paid zero attention to the problem. That is until now when Democrat run cities have been overwhelmed with illegal migrants and their societal and financial problems have skyrocketed.
