What are the side effects of statins?
“Statins” are the most potent cholesterol lowering drugs. There are six on the market in the US. There is a rare risk of serious liver or muscle damage (about one in a million). This risk is more common if the drugs are combined with other medications. A more common side effect is muscle pain or weakness in a small minority of users. There is a great deal of misinformation on the internet about statins and their potential harms and benefits. It is best to talk to a competent provider about your medications, not your neighbor or personal trainer.
