Sonora, CA – As winter arrives in the Mother Lode, bringing potentially freezing temperatures overnight, CAL Fire wants to advise the public about home heating.
At this time, many turn to space heaters to warm up areas of their house. Fire officials advise the public that flames may consume a room in seconds and a home in minutes, so exercise caution when heating a home. CAL Fire warns to keep safety in mind when heating and offers the following tips:
- Keep anything that can burn at least 3 feet away from heating equipment.
- Give space heaters space, as they need room to work safely.
- Always turn off portable heaters before leaving the room or going to bed.
“A little caution goes a long way in preventing home heating fires this season,” advised CAL Fire.
