Update: Yosemite Dome Fire Acreage Hike

Update at 4:45 p.m.: CAL FIRE reports a hike in the acreage of the Dome Fire burning in Yosemite north of Wawona in Mariposa County. This morning, they reported the fire had spread to 300 acres. This afternoon, new mapping showed that it had erupted to 1,177 acres. The fire, which started Tuesday morning, has yet to gain any containment, and the cause is being investigated. Crews will continue work on fire lines and containment overnight.

Original post at 11:55 a.m.: Yosemite, CA – Overnight, the Dome Fire jumped to 300 acres, with no containment gained on the blaze burning in Yosemite north of Wawona in Mariposa County.

CAL FIRE reported that the fire ignited in the wilderness, in grass, brush, and timber fuels. They relayed, “It is running upslope, aligned with steep terrain and wind, with limited access also hampering direct suppression efforts.”

Trails are closed in the area, as we reported here yesterday (9/15/26). Ground and air resources continue to be requested. What ignited this fire remains under investigation.
