Robert “Bob” John Wright Jr., 86, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2022 in Sonora, Ca.

Bobby was born on August 6th, 1935 to Anna (McBride) Wright and Robert John Wright Sr. in Oakland, Ca. The oldest of his siblings, Nancy Roebuck (William), James Wright and Edward Wright and his cousins, he was doted on by his many maternal McBride aunts, Uncle Bud and grandmother. Bobby spent his youth in Oakland and Antioch, enjoying his cousins, swimming, playing cards and CYO (Catholic Youth Association) activities through Saint Benedict’s, where he attended elementary school. (His children were amused that he received an award for Sportsmanship that he kept all these years. Perhaps foreshadowing that he would later become Director of CYO and the coach for his children and many others at Saint Clement in Hayward.) Bob attended Saint Mary’s College High School and graduated from Fremont High in Oakland in 1953.

Bob joined and served in the United States Marine Corps in Okinawa, Japan. He became an electrician, proudly serving IBEW 595 for sixty-eight years. He was introduced to Carol MacCausland by his sister Nancy, a classmate at Providence Nursing School. The nursing students and their spouses become cherished lifelong family friends. Bob and Carol were married from 1958-1987 and share six children and seven great-grandchildren. Bob retired to Sonora in the 1990s.

Bob is survived by his partner, Marilyn Day, six children, Dorothy Kyle (Sean), Robert J Wright III (Kris), Chuck Wright, Chris Wright (Tracy), Valerie Wright-Smith, and Stephanie (Jim) Ward. He is the proud Papa to Joan Kyle, Ryan Kyle, Robert John Wright IV (Cassie), Rachael Westbrook (Cory), Ricky Wright (Andrea), Rebekah Wright, Breanne Wright, Annelise Wright, Julieanne Wright, Steven Nunes, Isabella “Rose” Smith, Nathaniel Smith, seven great-grandchildren. He was grateful for his relationships with the children and grandchildren of his former partner, Barbara Fought. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Nancy and Jimmy, daughter-in-law, Dierdre Wright and Son-in-law, Randy Nunes.

A faithful member of AA for 19 years, Bob became a mentor to others. His many hobbies included fishing, trains, watching the Warriors and Raiders teams, cards, bowling, basketball, coaching, chess, gambling, dominoes and dancing. He loved the mountains and was proud of his Irish heritage. He will forever be known as “the silver fox” for his silver-white hair. He made regular donations to The VA, Veterans Affairs and Saint Jude. We have many memories of fishing trips, Feather River Camp with the nursing families and The HIghlands community where we were fortunate to grow up surrounded by many large families who became cherished friends,

The memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 23rd at noon, Sonora Hills Community Center, Sonora CA. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Alcoholics Anonymous, Saint Jude or The VA.
