Hobbs, Jessy
Jessy “Jay” Walter Hobbs was born on September 3, 1930 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He was the second eldest of six children born to Lewis and Bannie Hobbs. He and his siblings grew up in rural Oklahoma working on the farm raising animals and taking care of livestock. Farm living became a way of life for Jay throughout the remainder of his days. On August 26, 1951 Jay married Nannie “Nan” Harless and in 1951 they moved across the country to the Sonora area. Jay’s siblings and parents made the trek out west and settled in the Sonora area as well where most remained.
Over the next 70 years Jay and Nan Hobbs built their lives together in Sonora. They began their family and raised their three daughters, Cathy, Renee and Tracy. Jay worked in the logging industry, eventually working for Alderman Logging where he was a Logging Truck Driver and Truck Boss for over 30 years. Jay loved being out in the woods and driving in an Alderman Logging truck.
In retirement, Jay enjoyed raising his cattle, socializing with friends at the casino and taking his granddaughters and great grandchildren for rides on the tractor around their ranch. Jay loved tending to the property and was proud of the life that he and Nan had built for their family. Jay passed away on November 28, 2024 at the age of 94.
