San Andreas, CA — The names of three deputies involved in Saturday´s shooting death of 20-year-old Victoriano Gauna Jr. at the Mokelumne Fish Hatchery have been released.
Deputy Manuel Garcia, Senior Deputy Heather Cammisa and Deputy Brandon Hill have all been placed on administrative leave, as is standard practice in officer-involved shootings.
The deputies were responding to a reported shooting at Lake Comanche Saturday. Unable to locate a shooting victim, they continued their search at the Hatchery in San Joaquin County.
There the deputies found 19-year-old Johnny Gauna and 18-year-old Jamie Lynn Parker both of Lockeford in front of a vehicle with Victoriano in the back seat. As deputies approached, Victoriano raised a shotgun at them.
Seven-year department veteran Deputy Manuel Garcia responded by firing multiple rounds. Victoriano was later pronounced dead.
