A total of 247 people have filed candidacy papers for the October seventh recall election. The Secretary of State´s office says that 115 of those have been officially certified. The rest are being reviewed, and a final list will be released tomorrow.
Ninety-five candidates have filed as Democrats and 77 Republicans have filed papers. The rest are independents, and candidates for smaller parties.
Staging the election is posing major challenges for county elections officials. They say there could be problems processing a ballot that has so many names on it, and they´re worried they´ll need to do more work by hand. The election is estimated to cost $66 million.
