Some Calaveras County High School Student athletes may be subjected to random drug testing this coming school year.

The Bret Harte Union High School District trustees will look at the drug testing proposal at a Monday study session.

Bret Harte would be the first school in the Mother Lode League to test athletes for drugs and one of only a handful of schools in the Sac-Joaquin Section to have such a policy.

Under the proposal, the district would test four students at random each week for substances of drugs such as amphetamines, barbiturates, cocaine, opiates and THC, the active ingredient in marijuana.
