Bay Area residents donated hundreds of blankets in Fremont yesterday for Afghan refugees.

The Afghan Coalition of Fremont, the Afghan Women International Organization and the American Friends Service Committee have joined to collect the supplies. The blankets will go to refugee camps in Iran, Tajikistan and Pakistan.

The United Nations says nearly eight million Afghans will face freezing temperatures and possible starvation this winter.
