Local Fire Update
Firefighters continue their work on two large fires burning in the Mother Lode.
According to the CDF this morning, the Hunt Fire in western Calaveras County is still 50 percent contained and has burnt 600 acres.
Fire officials say all roads are now open and all residents have returned home. Full containment is expected on this fire near Hunt Road and Poole Station Road by 6 p.m. tonight and control by Friday, Aug. 13. There are currently 290 people working this fire.
The Early Fire burns in the Tuolumne River Canyon on the Stanislaus National Forest, 16 miles east of Groveland.
Forest Service spokesman Pat Kaurnet says firefighters made good progress on the blaze overnight. There are more than 900 firefighters on this blaze that fire is 75 percent contained. It has blackened over 1,600 acres.
Many of the fire crews and aircraft that had been working these fires, have now be reassigned to a new fire burning in Northern California.
A fire continues to rage near Lake Shasta, having burned 40 structures and threatening several others just outside of Redding.
At least 300 people have been evacuated as the fire has grown to 1,000 acres. A shelter has been set up at a nearby school. The fire is 20 percent contained. Sparks from a lawn mower caused the fire and someone has cited by authorities.
