Local Congressman Lands Chairman Spot
Sonora, CA – A key position for the Mother Lode Congressman, especially with Tuolumne County’s acreage of federal land.
District 4 Congressman Tom McClintock has been appointed Chairman of the Federal Lands Subcommittee of the Natural Resources Committee. He has been a member of the committee since 2009, most recently chairing the Water and Power subcommittee.
Congressman McClintock says, “The sound and rational management of our public lands to promote healthy forests and healthy local economies will be a top priority of the subcommittee, along with restoring access and enjoyment of these national treasures to their rightful owners – the American people.”
McClintock has been very vocal when it comes to federal land issues. As previously reported, in 2013, he held a hearing in Sonora at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds opposing federal protections for the Sierra Nevada Yellow Legged Frog and the Yosemite Toad arguing it would limit public access to the land. He has spoken out against the “Yosemite West” bill that would allow the National Park Service to add nearly 1,600 acres to Yosemite. McClintock also criticized the Park for a proposal to raise entrance fees.
District 4 includes the Tahoe Basin, Tahoe, Eldorado, Stanislaus, and Sierra National Forests; and Yosemite and Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks.
