Concerns About Copperopolis Subdivision
Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Supervisors have some concerns about a proposed 800 home subdivision in Calaveras County.
The Supervisors voted Tuesday to send a letter commenting on the Draft Environmental Impact Report for the Sawmill Lake Subdivision proposed for the intersection of Little John Road and Highway 4 near the Copperopolis Town Square.
The primary concern is the additional traffic that it would generate along O’Byrnes Ferry Road.
Part of the letter states, "Additional traffic generated by the Sawmill Lake Specific Plan has the potential to impact O’Byrnes Ferry Road and other roads in Tuolumne County. We request that a comprehensive cumulative analysis indentifying appropriate mitigation be conducted for O’Byrnes Ferry Road."
In addition, there are concerns raised about how the subdivision would affect water quality at Lake Tulloch.
The letter also cites a lawsuit settlement related to the Oak Canyon Ranch project where each residence was required to pay a fee of $975 to mitigate impacts to O’Byrnes Ferry Road, and the hope is that residences in Sawmill Lake would pay a similar fee.
