Supervisors Weigh In On New Melones Reservoir Plan
Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Supervisors voted Tuesday to send a list of comments to the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation regarding an upcoming management plan for New Melones Reservoir.
Once completed, the management plan will serve as a guide for development along New Melones Reservoir and its surrounding recreation areas of Tuttletown and Glory Hole.
There are different proposals being looked at by the B.L.M., and the Supervisors are hoping that the final plan emphasizes active management for “access, economic development and recreation.” The letter reads, “The expansion of developed and motorized recreational opportunities within Tuolumne County would increase the number of County jobs, allow for improved facilities and improve our tax base.”
The letter also indicates that the County wants to protect water rights, allow access for firefighting, continue funding a resident sheriff’s deputy and substation that includes boat storage, add recreational enhancements, and continue Tuolumne County’s first preference power allocation for Tuolumne Public Power Agency.
The deadline to submit comments on the plan is January of 2010. The final vote to send the letter was 4-1, as Supervisor Liz Bass was against.
