Residents from across Tuolumne County will gather at Courthouse Park in downtown Sonora from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM for No Kings 2.0, a peaceful rally affirming the principles of a country without kings or dictators. We will be occupying Courthouse Park with the side streets closed off to traffic during the event, and coordinating with the 3 branches of local law enforcement, ensuring everyone’s safety.
The No Kings movement has become one of the largest coordinated grassroots demonstrations in the nation, bringing together people who share a belief in America’s founding promise that power belongs to the people, not to kings. Participants will stand together in support of free speech, peaceful assembly, affordable healthcare, equality under the law, and a government that serves everyone.
“We love this country,” said a spokesperson for Tuolumne County Indivisible. “That’s why we’re showing up, peacefully, proudly, and visibly, to affirm that freedom of speech and the right to assemble are cornerstones of our country’s constitutional rights. We believe in an America where everyone’s rights and dignity are protected, where healthcare is affordable, and where no one uses troops, rhetoric, or fear to silence political opposition.”
The rally comes amid growing national concern over the White House’s efforts to intimidate protesters and silence opponents and critics, including the recent use of the federal military against citizens in Chicago, Portland, and Los Angeles, and falsely accusing any opposition of being terrorists.
Across the country, No Kings rallies have remained overwhelmingly peaceful, with participants carrying American flags, banners quoting the Preamble to the Constitution, and signs calling for fairness, integrity, and accountability.
The Sonora No Kings 2.0 rally will bring together local residents, community figures and organizations in a shared call for trust, truth, and compassion in how we care for one another and our country.
