The Columbia College Community Chorus with orchestra is proud to present the annual Sounds of the Season concert with three performances in the Sonora Opera Hall the first weekend of December. Conducted by Dr. Daryl Hollinger.
In the first half, the chorus and orchestra present Dr. Hollinger’s “Mary’s Song” followed by the five-movement “Magnificat” by Taylor Scott Davis, who has been praised for his ability to create “dreamy vocal lines” and his unique use of the orchestral instruments. In both these works, Mary rejoices that she has the privilege of giving birth to the promised Messiah. After an intermission, the second half brings Christmas carols with unusual rhythms, harmonies, and styles, plus the Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus” and the popular audience sing-along.
Tickets are $20 online at gocolumbia.edu and scroll down to Events, or $25 at the door. Children 12 and under are free (must reserve). For information, call 209-694-0168.
