Sounds of the Season Concert Joins College Chorus and Orchestra
Columbia College Community Orchestra and Chorus present Sounds of the Season, a holiday concert featuring popular holiday music.
Performances will be held in the Sonora High School Auditorium on Friday, December 5 at 7 p.m. and on Saturday, December 6 at 3 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and free for those ages 18 and under.
Dr. Daniel Godsil, professor of music at Columbia College, conducts the orchestra. Shiloah Fenn is the new conductor for the chorus.
Music at the concert includes Christmas Carols, popular songs, and selections from the Nutcracker.
“I think people are in for a real treat—not only will they hear old ‘chestnuts’ like ‘Sleigh Ride’ and Handel’s ‘Hallelujah Chorus,’ but also new favorites like music from ‘The Polar Express.’ I’m especially excited to combine our college’s orchestra with the chorus,” Godsil said.
Godsil is an award-winning composer, competing internationally. His choral works are published by Alliance Music Publishing and NoteNova Publishing, and his chamber and orchestral music is published by BabelScores in Paris.
Fenn studied music at University of the Pacific and Azusa Pacific University. Throughout her teaching career, she has instructed choral ensembles, piano classes, song writing, music theory, music appreciation, conducting, and musical theatre.
“The Columbia College Community Chorus has been rehearsing with such dedication and enthusiasm for this year’s program,” Fenn said. “It has been a joy to bring together rich, colorful works like Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music alongside the vibrance of Baba Yetu, sung in Swahili. We are especially thrilled we have the opportunity to collaborate with the Columbia College Orchestra, adding new depth and brilliance in celebration of the season.”
