New Physician Assistant in Groveland
Sonora, CA – Adventist Health Sonora welcomes Michael Layton, D.C., M.S., P.A.-C., a physician assistant who has joined Groveland Family Medical Office to provide primary care for the community.
Layton holds both a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Stony Brook University, in Stony Brook, N.Y., as well as a Doctor of Chiropractic from University of Western States, in Portland, Ore. “After practicing chiropractic for seven years, I decided to complement my background with general medicine to focus on caring for the whole patient,” Layton explains. “I look forward to bringing my knowledge and skill set to provide care in a rural area.”
Providing care in Groveland four days per week, Layton will focus on caring for adults by providing general medical care but will also see adults and children for urgent needs. Layton is interested in helping his patients with more complex medical issues to manage their chronic conditions.
Layton, an avid rock climber, became interested in chiropractic after breaking both legs in a fall. He found chiropractic care beneficial in his recovery and wanted to provide the same care for others. In 2009, as a chiropractor and professional rock climber, Layton published “Climbing Stronger Faster Healthier,” an instructional textbook detailing advanced climbing and rescue techniques as well as training, nutrition and injury care instruction.
Layton has moved to Groveland from Salt Lake City, where he worked as a physician assistant at the University of Utah School of Medicine and First Med Urgent Care. In his time off he enjoys spending time with his wife and dog who all enjoy climbing together.
