Sonora, CA — Plans are actively being developed to create a trail system between Sonora, Columbia, Jamestown, and other surrounding communities.
Public outreach events for the Tuolumne Heritage Trail (previously known as the Gold Rush Path) will be held later this month in Sonora and Columbia. It aims to connect neighborhoods, parks, schools, and downtown districts so that people have the option to walk or bike. Current planning efforts are focused on the corridor between Sonora High School and Columbia.
The upcoming meetings, being called “Progress in Motion” events, will allow community members to ask questions, learn the details, and meet the project team.
The first is from 4-7 pm on Friday, May 29, at Coffill Park in Sonora. The second is on Saturday, May 30, from 10 am – 4 pm in the Eagle Cottage at Columbia State Historic Park.
The Tuolumne Heritage Trail is a multi-jurisdictional and multi-agency project planned in six phases. Planning is being overseen by the Tuolumne County Transportation Council.
More details on the project can be found here.
