The judge in the trial of David Westerfield will hold a hearing this morning on a media request for certain sealed transcripts as the jury begins its eighth day of deliberations in the high-profile case. Judge William Mudd is being asked by an attorney for media organizations to release transcripts from closed hearings in the trial of the man accused of kidnapping and killing 7-year-old Danielle van Dam.

The jury has met for about 28 hours since they received the case. On Friday they asked to review the testimony of a county medical examiner and of an insect expert who was a defense witness. Westerfield is accused of kidnapping and murdering his seven-year-old neighbor, Danielle van Dam. He could face the death penalty if convicted.
