Fewer people have been killed in traffic accidents over the holiday weekend so far this year than last year.
The California Highway Patrol says 15 people died statewide in the 36 hours starting 6 p.m. on Friday, well below the 27 who were killed in the same period last year.
Last year, 45 people died statewide in traffic accidents over the Labor Day weekend.
Across California, the Highway Patrol has made a 1,075 arrests for drunken-driving, up from 944 in 2002.
