Central valley farmers may be getting some government help to buy cleaner equipment. The federal government has unveiled a new $3 million program to replace aging diesel irrigation pumps by paying up to half the cost of new, lower-emission diesel engines. It´s all part of an effort to improve the air quality in the San Joaquin Valley. Only farmers in the counties where air quality is among the worst in the state are eligible to apply. Applications are being accepted now through June 1st at National Resources Conservation county offices for funding this year.
